  • 949 Racing Project ND Miata

Something we are working on. Realized after we did the CAD renders that the wheel diameter is off. Supposed to be 17x9 but rendered as a 15.5 x 8 or thereabouts. Still looks good so we published anyway This will be an HPDE style build. Roll bar is just a concept sketch. BlackBird Fabworx bar will be a bit different in the flesh. Areas we are focused on for collecting data and developing new parts: Engine normally aspirated, suspension, differential, clutch, flywheel, ECU, brakes, aerodynamics. Thing will be in continuous development so every time you might see it at the track, it'll be different. We plan to give rides every time we take it to the track or someone drops by the shop.

Any idea the smallest wheel diameter that clears the stock brakes?

Some 16's apparently, not the Brembo option though. We have no current plans for 16's for the car as there aren't any good tire options. Actually, the perfect 17" tire size for this car doesn't exist yet either, but still better than 16" options.

Nope. We may play around with a Rotrex after a year or so. Car is quite quick right out of the box. No, it's not a Corvette. With an equal set of tires though, it'll show it's heels to an S2000 or FRS though, stock for stock.

They have the same power/weight ratio, and the ND benefits from not being a 16 years old design. I believe it

I predict we'll get real close to 2:00 with just 200tw "street" tires (stock wheels) and alignment at BW13CW

My bad on the wheels. E told me the size and tire and I had to sort of go off pictures to come up with a wheel. I knew it wasn't right, but a 15" version was all I had to go from.

Orange is literally the most difficult color to render. It grads between yellow and brown, so sometimes the lighting has to be cheated to get the form to show.

In a high speed autocross last weekend, we're already matching fully prepped STR NCs with competitive drivers. That with just 2 weeks of development time, skinny RE71Rs, improved alignment, some brake tweaks, test springs that are still way too soft and stock sways, stock everything else. It has more potential than any previous generation, which makes me excited and giddy in an almost embarrassing way.

Very excited to see 949 digging into this platform as well. Magical things in store. All the hair curlers unite!

^^Ive been surprised by the amount of Miata tuners/specialist buying NDs to develop the platform. I didn't own a Miata back in '05 when the NCs came out but even in '07 when I bought my '99, it seemed like only Goodwin was developing the NC. I think it says good things about the ND and will only get better.
