  • Burgoon DIY oil change deal

thought I would share: 2 deals going on right now with Kragen (also known as O'reilly)

    1. O'Reilly full synthetic oil, 5 qt + Mobil1 oil filter. $18.

    2. Valvoline Synpower synthetic, $15 for a gallon. You buy 2, and get a $25 rebate. comes out to less than $1 per qt.

I just bought enough today to last me 2 years

not for everyone, some of you would buy only JDM engine oil at 0w100 weight. I am one of those think any decent brand synthetic at 5w30 (5w20, 0w40 or 10w30) will do. Burgoon use dino. but it is not much cheaper compare to above.

Autozone has the 5 qts M1 and M1 filter for $29.99 deal for another day or two. I always stock up when I see the deal.

        awesome oil deals, william!

i always load up on "GDM" castrol syntec 0w-30 when they have the 5qts and a stp filter for $27 deal at autozone. i change my oil every year or 6 track events. i think theres no need to change the oil too often.

oreilys also has conventional oil for $2/qt. which is what i use in my daily driver and parents vehicles.

the Oreilly deal is synthetic AND M1 oil filter. just the oil filter alone is more than $10 everywhere.

imo, good filter is more important than good oil.

most oil filters have a bypass valve opening at a certain psi. there are two schools of thought when it comes to choosing an oil filter. you can get a restrictive filter that has a low micron rating such as m1 or pureone but youre gonna be in bypass mode more often. or you can choose a filter with a higher micron rating that is less restrictive such as k&n or wix and be in bypass mode less often. you can also buy a low micron rated filter with a higher bypass psi rating or a filter with no bypass valve that fit your motor. it would suck if you got a filter where the bypass valve broke allowing no oil to be filtered at all.

i use napa gold (wix) oil filter in my civic.

So would using cheaper oil be bad in anyway? Just as long as you have oil in the engine your good right?

oil is oil, just some of them have modifiers in them to make them do things like resist heat better or clean the cylinder walls or make snowflakes come out your exhaust pipe.

+1. Everytime I see another 17-page thread on "what kind of oil do you use" it makes me want to gag. At least this thread is originally about -- "I found a cheap deal on oil, go out and buy a lot before the price goes up." That makes more sense.
