  • What kind of grease on sway bar bushings?

Sway bars and bushings come with a little grease in the kit to lube them before assembly. What grease do you use if you don't have that nifty little packet that comes with the kit?

I know they come with goop but that's just wrong. If the bushings need goop they are the wrong bushings AKA poly is just lame like rubber but for different reasons. No sway bar should need goop either. All swaybar "U" mounts should be shimmed for free rotation of the bar like handshake tight kind of drag of the bar on the mounts. That drag plus bar preload is why you disconnect the bar before corner balancing.

Aside from their cost I never understood why people race them.

The bushings are spec'd, so what I have is what I get. I shimmed them years ago because they would bind. I'll check the drag again. And fry up some bacon. Mmmmm, bacon.

Marine grease in auto parts store. Otherwise first time you run over a puddle, it will
              Start to squeak

That stuff included with Energy bushings is super sticky stuff. It seemed to coat my control arms and tools when I just did an install. It was noticeably stickier than superlube.

I've never tried it on FSB, mainly because I shim mine as FBB suggested that you do.
But some years ago I was attempting to cure the annoying squeak from the RSB and rolled a few layers of Teflon tape on it where it sits in the bushing.
That squeak never came back, something I can't say about any grease I've ever used.

IMO you aren't greasing to stop squeaks. You aren't shimming to stop squeaks right?

Not what I said, of course you're greasing the bushings to reduce binding.
The squeak was just the reason I gave the Teflon tape a try, but FWIW the reason is irrelevant, the idea is what matters.

                        Moti,

Wasn't really specifically replying back to you with that comment. I was generally pointing out that greasing the bushings has nothing to do with squeaks and has a purpose that enhances shimming and done for the exact same reasons.

Yes it is the idea that matters. I forget sometimes here at TrackHQ that some people discuss purposes for doing things outside of racing. Water causing squeaks , and how long grease lasts means little to me as my bars are lubed about every other weekend in order to ensure there is no binding, and it is good just to ensure that something else hasn't bound up my suspension. Same reason I scale and align every weekend. I realize that not everyone feels the same way I do about regreasing hubs and bushings and the frequency that I do it at.

                          Energy Suspension Hyperlube pro tips:

                          1. The lube is water resistant and non-migrating. Meaning it sticks to everything like a mixture of peanut butter & superglue
                          2. Have a stack of disposable latex gloves handy
                          3. Citrus degreaser removes it from tools, and parts of the car you don't want greased
                          4. Only apply grease to area where urethane contacts metal. Wipe off any excess

Actually, you can buy small amounts from Energy Suspension. I ordered some, so it should be here in a couple of days. I bought a tube if dielectric grease, but it seemed too sticky, so I went with silicone spray, but I can't see that lasting.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with all this bacon.
