  • Mazda Miata MX-5 RF Okay for Track Days without a Roll Bar?

Had a guy ask us if he could run a new MX-5 RF in out Time Trials group. I couldn't find any info on the web as to the protection the roof structure offers in the event of a rollover.

Anyone have any info on this? Anyone allowing these cars to run at track events without a roll bar? Will a typical Miata roll bar even fit in them?

There is a roll bar available through Flyin’ Miata but the top will no longer open when installed. I personally wouldn’t run a track day in any Miata including the RF without at least a roll bar.

It depends on your rules and how they are written. Factory rollover protection and a composite roof *generally* covers vehicles like this, but the use of a fixed seat and harnesses gets dicey.
